A Rectangle alternative for Mac

Rectangle is a popular free, open source window manager for Mac. If halves, thirds and quarters cover your needs, it is a very good choice and you may not need anything else. Zonewell is for people who want to draw their own zones.

When Rectangle is the better pick

• You are happy with standard positions such as halves, thirds and quarters
• You want a free tool
• You prefer open source software

When Zonewell is the better pick

• You want a layout like three windows across the top and two along the bottom
• You want to save several layouts and switch between them
• You want one shortcut to send all your front windows into place
• You want gaps and margins that match a live preview

Rectangle also has a paid Pro version. Check its own website for what it currently includes.

Using both

They can coexist, but only one should handle each shortcut. Change or turn off overlapping shortcuts in one of the apps so they do not fight over the same keys.
